WHAT IS IT?
It is an order granted by the Court, following an application made by a spouse or a person living under the same roof of another; who has been the victim of an act of Domestic Violence

WHO CAN APPLY FOR IT?
- A spouse (the Applicant)
- A person (the Applicant) living under the same roof as the person causing the act of domestic violence
HOW TO APPLY FOR IT?
The Applicant applies for a Protection Order to the Court by filing an affidavit or filling out a form.
The person accused of the domestic violence, (the Respondent), will have 14 days to show cause why such an order should not be made
WHAT IS THE OUTCOME?

The Court can grant a Protection Order restraining the Respondent from engaging in any act of Domestic Violence against the Applicant.

Prohibit the Respondent from:
- Being on a specific premise, like the residence or workplace of the Applicant,
- Approaching within a specified distance of the Applicant, contacting, harassing or intimidating the Applicant,
- Damaging the property of the Applicant
BREACH OF PROTECTION ORDER
Any person who willfully fails to comply with an Order made by the Court shall commit an offence and may be arrested by the police;
- commit an offense and may be arrested by the police;
- and if convicted of this offense, one may be liable to a fine not exceeding MUR 25000 and imprisonment for a period not exceeding 2 years.
